SVGVA serves off island tours

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association (SVGVA) will from 1 p.m., tomorrow at the Girls’ High School court, begin its “Volleyball Island Tours”.

Also listed to get a taste of the Volleyball Island Tours are Layou, Belair, Georgetown and South Rivers.

The Volleyball Island Tours, which is part of the SVGVA’s strategic development plan, takes the form of a series of four-a-side tournaments in the communities listed.

Teams are allowed to register six players per team; however, once registered, players are not allowed to switch teams during the course of the tour. Each team will be charged a fee of $5 per player registered.

In addition, units are permitted to register one junior and one senior team in both the male and female categories.

Matches will be one set, with the first team getting to the 15 points declared the winner.

The SVGVA thus instituted a points system for the series, with seven allocated for placing first; five points for placing second; and three points for placing third in each tour.

All participating teams get a point for trumping in at least one match.

The team accumulating the most points at the end of the tour would be declared the winner.

According to the SVGVA, the island tours are primarily to rekindle and rejuvenate the game of volleyball in St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as to develop an interest in the game among citizens, along with identification and recruitment of interested persons in other aspects of the game, namely scoring and refereeing.

The SVGVA has appointed Andrew Bramble as point man to oversee the hosting of the Volleyball Island Tours.(RT)
