SVGCC’s second semester of sports gets going soon

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) will resume its sporting activities with the inter-divisional basketball competition, beginning January 30.

Following the conclusion of the basketball competition, attention turns to volleyball, set to serve off February 20.

Both basketball and volleyball are set for the Villa Campus courts.

When the volleyball competition was hosted in 2017, Year One Technical came up trumps in the final over Year Two Arts, Science and General Studies.

Year One Arts, Science and General Studies copped the basketball component, when it was played last year.

Meanwhile, the Year Two students who are involved in Physical Education studies will host a super 8 cricket competition on February 21 and an individual tennis competition – February 23.

These are part of the students’ School Based Assessment (SBA).

With the other disciplines out of the way, attention then goes to athletics, with the inter-divisional road relay, March 13 and the inter-divisional heats set for March 19.

The track and field finals take place March 23 at the Arnos Vale Playing Field. Year One Division of Arts and General Studies won last year’s track and field title, repeating their attainment in 2016.

All three disciplines are sponsored by Quickcash Corp.

Last semester, the SVGCC hosted its inter- faculty and interdivisional football, as well as inter-divisional netball and singles tennis competitions.

Apart from the internal competitions, the SVGCC will continue with its annual football and cricket tour of Canouan and participation in the Sir Garfield Sobers Invitational Schools’ Cricket Tournament in Barbados.(RT)
