SVG Squash Association unveils full 2018 calendar


2018 will be a busy year for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association (SVGSA), as several local tournaments are listed to be contested, with the first being the SVG Junior Open.

The dates set aside for the SVG Junior Open are February 9 to 11.

Also, in the month of February, on the 23rd and 24th, are the Junior National Championships; both would be held at the National Squash Centre at Paul’s Avenue.

The XVII OECS Junior Championships hold the biggest interest in March, as St Vincent and the Grenadines host the subregional tournament from March 15 to 17.

Then, from May 2 to 5, there will be the Senior National Championships to be hosted here, as a prelude to the Senior OECS Championships, which head to Grenada, May 17 to 20.

The SVG Squash Association will host one other championship during the year – the Independence Championships, during the month of October.

Listed for happening during the year as well is the National Junior Programme, aimed at grooming young talent from an early age.

Other significant items of the association on the national squash calendar include the convening of its Annual General Meeting and elections of a new executive on January 20, as well as participating in regional and international tournaments.

St Vincent and the Grenadines will combine with other territories of the subregion, to contest as an OECS unit at the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s Junior and Senior Championships in Jamaica and Guyana, respectively.

In addition, SVG will continue its participation in the Barbados Junior Open in December.

Squash is also expected to make up St Vincent and the Grenadines’ presence at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.(RT)
