Five-day Road Tennis Tournament in full swing

The Professional Road Tennis Association of Barbados is currently running a five-day Road Tennis Tournament here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

The tournament began last Saturday at the Calliaqua hard court, with matches in the Kingstown Zone. The Windward Zone was played on Monday at the Chili hard court, Georgetown and then the Leeward Zone at the Layou Government hard court. Matches were in the senior division (men and women) and junior boys and girls (under 16).

The following male players qualified for the round of 16: Bevan Burgin, Joseph Carrington, Hershel Burgin, Alanzo Jackson, Nimron Daniel, Erran Arrandell, Samsa Mc Donald, Joeran Burke, Javon Woods Arrington Burgin, Andre Bramble, Greg John, Grant Connell, Dexroy Springer, Lemus Christopher and Sean Stanley.

For females, Janette Christopher, Unica Velox, Hazelann Foster, Keisha Morgan, Maundlyn Blunt, Nadia lweis Samantha Lynch, Roxann  Williams, Maria Abbott and Elizabeth Glasgow qualified.

In the junior boys round of 16: Che Connell, Joseph, Joshua Joseph, Ahijah Blunt, Joshua James, Kriston Christopher, Paulson Mack, Omarion Samuel, Tyrike Sage, Ormarion Jack, Akeil DeRoche, Denzil Bascombe, Dureese Nelson, Matthew Jackson, Shane Lynch and Tayon Burgin qualified.

The girls quarter-finalists are Kristanna Christopher, Khilya Miller, Christianna Burke, Niasha Grant, Anestasia White, Ilene Joseph and Keiza Blunte.

There are prize monies for each category: Men’s first place – $2,000; second place – $1,000; third – $250 and fourth – $250.

Women’s first place – $1,200; second place – $600; third and fourth $100 each.

The tournament wraps up today, Friday, December 22.
