Two Vincentians attend international commissaire course

Vincentians Shimano Bailey and Justin Douglas are seeking to become regional commissaires, after attending a four-day international commissaire training course hosted here by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union.

Bailey and Douglas, along with a representative each from Barbados, Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago, attended the course, held at Xpert Computer Centre conference room, and conducted by Canadian Wayne Pomario.

An International Cycling Union (UCI) expert, Pomario explained that the course was “more advanced than national commissaire… It was basically to raise the standard of commissaires around the world.

“It went well… I have definitely seen a level of change and understanding and improvement… The questioning by the participants was good,” Pomario added.

The course, apart from the daily lectures, saw the five participants completing three exams, comprising two written and an oral evaluation.

The international commissaire course will equip participants with skills to officiate at the regional and international levels.(RT)
