New Secondary Schools’ Netball champions crowned

The 2017 secondary schools’ netball tournament has ushered in two new divisional champions.

The new winners, Georgetown Secondary School, in the Junior Division and Barrouallie Secondary School, the Senior Division, were installed last Tuesday at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex.

In securing their first lien on the Junior Division, Georgetown Secondary outscored Sandy Bay Secondary 20-16, hence taking over from Troumaca Ontario Secondary, which copped the title in 2016.

Despite Georgetown Secondary’s win, it was Sandy Bay Secondary’s Monell Lavia, who was named player of the final.

Meanwhile, for Barrouallie Secondary, it was returning to the pinnacle, after being dethroned last year by Bethel High School.

Regaining the Senior Division, Barrouallie dominated the proceedings against a sluggish Thomas Saunders Secondary.

Barrouallie rushed to a 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and it was 13-4 still in Barrouallie’s favour at the halfway mark.

It became 20-8 and finally 31-12, as Barrouallie won handsomely.

Barrouallie Secondary’s Ancia Hackshaw was the recipient of the Senior Division’s player of the final accolade.

Preceding the two finals, were the third place playoffs.

Finishing third in the Junior Division was Bethel High School, who bettered Barrouallie Secondary, 20-15.

The Senior Division’s third place saw Sandy Bay Secondary registering an 18-14 trumping over Georgetown Secondary.
