MOE, RSVG Police take Breakaway Masters football titles

Textile Sports Ministry of Education and RSVG Police took the league and knockout titles respectively, in the Senior Division of the Digicel/St Vincent Brewery/Breakaway Masters Firms Invitational Football Tournament, played at the Grammar School Playing Field.

Ministry of Education regained hold of the league title, with 3-1 in kicks from the penalty spot, on Friday, thereby preventing RSVG Police from remaining champions.

The kicks from the penalty spot were needed, after both teams played to a 2-2 draw in regulation period.

It was the Ministry of Education’s third lien on the league title, having won in 2014 and 2015.

And, having won for the third time, Ministry of Education was afforded the luxury of keeping the challenge trophy.

Taking the third place were R&R Construction Ministry of Transport.

But, RSVG Police rebounded on Sunday to keep their knockout title intact, edging out Bonadies 1-0.

Among the individual awards presented was that for most goals, which was puffed by Reginald Payne of SVG Port Authority, whose 14 outdid the other goalscorers.

Adjudged the most outstanding player was KFC’s Mark King and the top female player was Ministry of Transport’s Jessica Miller.

Another member of the Ministry of Transport team, Uroy Bulze, was named the most outstanding goalkeeper.

The award for the most disciplined team was snapped up by Customs and Finance, with the SVG Port Authority copping the award for the team with the most support and KFC, the most improved team.

Group winners in the preliminary round were RSVG Police – Group One and Agriculture Input Warehouse Fisherfolks – Group Two.
