North East take SVG Masters’ Cricket title again

Teachers Co-operative Credit Union North East retained the SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket Competition title by defeating RSVG Police by 50 runs in the grand final played at the Sion Hill Playing Field last Sunday.

 North East, batting first, posted 180 for 4 off 20 overs. Deighton Butler scored 60 not out, Rawle Baptiste, 38, Elton Williams, 28 and Alison Dublin, 22. Elgin Richards took 2 for 66. 

RSVG Police made 130 for 8 off 20 overs. Jeffrey La Borde scored 32 and Elgin Richards, 31. Olanzo Jackson had 3 for 25 and Deighton Butler, 2 for 28.

Butler was named Player of the Final.

 North East had beaten Mustique Company Masters by eight wickets on Saturday in their semi-final at Park Hill.

 Mustique Company Masters made 144 for 6 off 20 overs, with Roy Baptiste scoring 47 and Julian Lampkin, 35.

 North East responded with 145 for 2 off 16.2 overs. Winsbert Springer scored 56 not out, Harvey Pope, 36 and Alison Dublin, 30.

Also on Saturday, RSVG Police defeated Stanley Browne’s Stubbs by four wickets at the Sion Hill venue. 

Stubbs scored 146 for 6 off 20 overs. Kissinger McLean made 79 and Micah Joseph, 28.

 

Elgin Richards took 3 for 24. 

RSVG Police, in reply, made 147 for 6 off 18.4 overs. Elgin Richards scored 51 not out, Jeffrey Laborde, 43 and Trevor Bailey, 32. 

Bowling for Stubbs, Theo Wallace took 2 for 28 and Basil Andrews, 2 for 34.

 North East’s Harvey Pope was the tournament’s leading batsman, compiling 230 runs, with RSVG Police’s Elmore Alexander taking the most wickets – 16.

Alexander was one of two bowlers who had a five-wicket haul, when he took 5 for 26 versus AR & G Ptani.

The other was Michael Jack, who bagged 5 for 20 for Ptani against JG and Sons Glamorgan.

The lone century-maker was North East’s Alison Dublin, who scored 107 versus North Leeward.

 The MVP of the tournament was RSVG Police’s Elgin Richards.

 North East won Zone A and RSVG Police were Zone B winners in the preliminary round of the competition.

North East, during 2017, have won the Carricou Masters and the SVG International Masters competitions.
