Kai Bentick pouches double titles in junior Barbados Squash Open
Kai Bentick pouched both the Under-17 and Under-19 titles at last weekendâs hosting of the World Junior Circuit Hilton Barbados Squash Open, contested at the Barbados Squash Clubâs Marine Garden Courts.
Capturing the Under-17 title, Bentick overcame Darrien Benn, of the host country Barbados, in straight sets, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.
Then Bentick, who has a world squash ranking of 43rd, scorched Chemar Burnham, also of Barbados, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3, en route to the Under-19 title.
Bentick was part of a six-member St Vincent and the Grenadines team which contested the tournament.
The others were Jaydon Williams, Mikal Quashie, Nadira Morgan, Mikhail Quashie and Jayden George.
Williams had to settle for the second place in the Under-11 final, after being defeated by another hometown competitor Nathan King, 11-2, 15-13, 11-7.
Williams was also fifth in the Boys Under-13, a position he gained after beating Raziel Lopez of Barbados, 11-2, 11-7, 11-2, in the consolation final.
Mikal Quashie, who has a world junior ranking of 25th, placed third in the boysâ Under-19, defeating Barbadian Kemar Lord 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.
Like Mikal Quashie, Morgan finished third in the Girlsâ Under-13, after she was beaten by Phoebe Gittens of Barbados, 11-13, 5-11, 9-11.
Meanwhile, Mikhail Quashie had to settle for the fourth spot in the Boys Under-15, being whipped by Zishan Morata of Barbados, 9-11, 2-11, 12-14.
George, on the other hand, won the consolation place in the Boys Under-11, overcoming Barbadian Nikolas Greigg, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
