New champions for Greiggs Softball Cricket Competition

new champions will be crowned in the Hairoun Beer/FLOW/Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem Greiggs 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition, whenever the final is set.

This, after last year’s champions Owia Young Strikers were sent packing by Bruce Law Chambers Smashers Inc, last Saturday at the Greiggs Central Playing Field.

In the first of the quarter-finals, which had to be reduced to 17 overs because of rain, Owia Young Strikers scored 74 for 9 from their allotment of overs.

Bowling for Smashers, Renrick Peters took 3 for 15 and Glendon James, 3 for 17.

In response, Smashers needed only 12 overs to make 75 for 2, to trump by eight wickets. Glendon James scored 29, not out.

On Sunday morning, rain also caused the curtailment of the Dr Thomas Injectors versus Sion Hill Tallawahs encounter.

Reduced to 15 overs per side, Sion Hill Tallawahs posted 124 for 6, from their maximum overs.

Erwin Williams led the scoring with 67, not out. Wendell Corridon was Injectors’ most successful bowler, grabbing 3 for 13.

Dr. Thomas Injectors in reply, were dismissed for 77 in their 15 overs, as Shawn Williams took 4 for 16, Alex Roberts, 3 for 21 and Shamic Roberts, 3 for 25.

Sion Hill Tallawahs won by 47 runs.

Then, after three interruptions, there was finally a 13-over encounter between Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem and Street Fighters.

From their 13 overs, Nar Fren Dem made 80 for 4. Keno Matthews led with 30.

When Street Fighters responded, Antonio Barker was the fulcrum, posting a knock of 65 not out, in his team’s 83 for 5 from 10 overs.

In Street Fighters’ five-wicket win, Nar Fren Dem’s key players with the ball were Andre Bacchus, who had 2 for 8 and Sachin James, 2 for 20.

And, Country Meet Town Outa Trouble Family and Gairy’s Construction Simple Boyz’ match was completely rained out and will be rescheduled.
