Freeland Outa Trouble win Marriaqua Softball Cricket title

Freeland Outa Trouble, last Sunday at the Cane End Playing Field, lifted the 2017 Hairoun Kirk Da Silva Marriaqua Softball Cricket title, with a narrow three-run win over Cane End Gunners.

Batting first, Freeland Outa Trouble were dismissed for 98 in their 20 overs.

But Cane End Gunners’ response stopped short by three runs, as their reply ended at 95.

Freeland Outa Trouble’s Richie Richards was adjudged Player of the Final.

For winning the title, Freeland Outa Trouble collected a trophy and $1,500, while Cane End Gunners earned a trophy and $1,000.

Taking the third place were Richland Park Malla, who beat Richland Park Fully Loaded, as they squared off last Sunday, prior to the grand finale.

Scores: Richland Park Fully Loaded – 104, Richland Park Malla – 105.

Getting the award for scoring the most runs in the competition was Keno Matthews, who notched up 155 runs, while Sunil Paul captured the most wickets – 16.

The Cane End Playing Field, though, will still be abuzz with action, with the staging of the inaugural Larry Bascombe Marriaqua Football Association Village Knockout Competition.

Only teams within the Marriaqua Valley are eligible to participate in this competition, which kicks off this Sunday.

The late Larry Bascombe was a formidable president of the Marriaqua Sports Association.
