SOSVG to hold bocce competition tomorrow

Special Olympics St Vincent will be hosting a Unified Sports® Bocce Competition at the Calliaqua Playing Field tomorrow, Saturday, September 30, starting at 10 a.m.

Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences.

Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

This competition will see students from schools around Kingstown and Calliaqua, businesses, institutions, clubs and other individuals partnering with Special Olympics SVG athletes. This is an opportunity for the athletes to showcase their bravery and athleticism.

The general public is invited to participate in the competition either as volunteers, spectators or as competitors.

A release from Special Olympics SVG says thanks to the generosity of their sponsors, they were able to purchase new bocce equipment for the programme.

The sponsors are: KFC, Invest SVG, CWSA, Pasta Enterprises, General Hardware, Coreas Hazells Inc, KCCU, Randy’s Supermarket, Calliaqua Food Basket, Facey Trading, ED Layne & Sons Ltd, Massey Stores, Grenadine House, Digicel, Bank of SVG, National Lotteries, and ECGC.

This competition is a warm-up for the athletes, as they prepare for Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, scheduled to take place in March 2019.

The public is also invited to patronize the barbecue fund-raiser that will also take place at this event. Tickets are on sale from members of the Board of Directors, athletes and the office at a cost of $15. There is no admission fee to this event.
