Two former champs win in Greiggs softball weekend

Two former winners of the St Vincent Brewery Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem Greiggs 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition, Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem and CGM Gallagher Novice, were in winners’ row last Sunday, as the 2017 edition rolled on at the Greiggs Central Playing Field.

Nar Fren Dem had a 17-run win over Bank of SVG All Starz.

Nar Friend Dem piled on 221 for 7 in their 20 overs. Yekini Miller who top scored with 48, Ceon Phillips, 44 and Keno Matthews, 40, were the main contributors.

Kelique Samuel took 2 for 30, bowling for All Starz, who then made a strong reply.

However, they were cornered by the bowling of Rod Collins, who picked up 5 for 26, to stay at 204 for 9 from their 20 overs. Kelly Murray top scored with 96 for All Starz.

Meanwhile, Novice beat Fully Loaded by 29 runs.

Novice made 96 for 4 from 10 overs, as the match was reduced because of a late start.

Elton Williams led Novice’s total with 43 and Roderick John hit 31. Otis Hector picked up 2 for 16 and Javil Harry had 2 for 27.

Fully Loaded responded with 69 for 7 from their 10 overs; Javil Harry scored 19.

Everton Durrant took 2 for 17 and Christon Williams, 2 for 18.

Sunday’s other match, between another previous winner RSVG Police and Extreme Strikers, was reset to another date.

On Saturday, Country Meets Town Out Ah Trouble banged Caesar’s Defenders by 110 runs.

Out Ah Trouble posted 146 for 8 from their 20 overs. Sunil Ambris scored 65, while Imran Samuel pocketed 3 for 38. Caesar’s Defenders were routed for 36 in 13.2 overs. Othneil Lewis scored 16, as Wesrick Straugh grabbed 3 for 4 and Shemroy Primus had 3 for 10.

And, Sion Hill Tallawahs dumped Log Enterprise Supreme Strikers by five wickets.

Supreme Strikers scored 108 for 7 from their 20 overs. Tyson Richards hit 25 not out.

Alex Roberts, with 3 for 31, was Sion Hill Tallawahs’ most successful bowler.

Chasing 109 to win, Sion Hill Tallawahs reached the target for the loss of five wickets in 15.4 overs. Hazel Roberts top scored with 35. Darren John had 2 for 6 and Tydell Richards 2 for 14, bowling for Supreme Strikers.
