Vincentian gets bronze at Pre-Cadet TT Championships
Vincentian Leah Cumberbatch secured a bronze medal at the recent hosting of the Caribbean Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships, which took place at the National Arena in Jamaica.
Cumberbatch, the lone female of the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) outfit, however, had to team up with two Guyanese players to achieve her award.
Participating in the girls team category, Cumberbatchâs input was decisive, as she defeated Christina Smith of Jamaica 11/9, 12/10, 10/12, 11/5 to tip her adopted team in the play-off with the hosts.
Reports say that Cumberbatch is the first Vincentian to gain a medal at the regional developmental exercise.
Besides Cumberbatch, who contested the females Under-13 division, the SVG team also included Caleb Howard, Michel Creese and Kristian Christopher.
Howard and Creese competed in the boys Under-13, and Christopher, the boys Mini-Cadet Under-11 and the Pre-Cadet Under-13 singles.
SVG also had a showing in the boys teamsâ competition and the mixed doubles.
Unica Velox was the coach/chaperone of the team and Romano Spencer, assistant coach/manager.(RT)
