Maloney tops batting; Hooper tops bowling in NLA Premier Division
Desron Maloney, in his first season with Police Two in the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national cricket programme of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc, was the leading run-scorer, while Asif Hooper of Team Rivals, was the top wicket-taker.
Maloney, a free-scoring, right-handed opening batsman, made 439 runs from 11 innings. Maloney, who is still to cement a place in the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team, finished with an average of 43.9 runs.
He had a best of 120 not out, with three other scores above 50. Maloney edged out Miles Bascombe of Victors One, who ended three short, on 436, at an average of 39.64. Bascombeâs best effort was 101 not out.
On the bowling side, Hooper, who captained his team, collected 45 wickets at a cost of 9.98 runs apiece. Hooper, in 10 matches in which he bowled in 13 innings, had four five-wicket hauls, one seven-wicket haul and on one occasion had a 10 or more wickets match haul. Hooper also showed his all-round ability, scoring 230 runs.
Second to Hooper in the wickets column, was Kenneth Dember of Police Two, who had 41 scalps. Demberâs wickets were fetched from seven matches.
FLOW Radcliffe retained the Premier Division title, ending on 153 points, just ahead of Police Two on 150. Team Rivals put together 142 points, to complete the top three.
Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO finished at the bottom of the standings, on a mere 26 points. ASCO will be replaced in the 2018 Premier Division slate by the First Division winners Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward.
The 2017 Premier Division, which contained six teams, saw two rounds of competition being played.
