James Bentick retakes senior CASA title … Barbados, overall champs

Vincentian James Bentick was the lone member of the OECS team to lift an individual title, when the National Lotteries Authority XXV Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) tournament concluded, here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, last Saturday.

Bentick won the 40 and Over male title. He added the 2017 title to wins achieved in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Bentick was one of five winners in the veterans’ category. Like Bentick, another multiple title holder, Barbadian Mark Sealey retained the Men’s Over-50, thus making it four in a row.

Meanwhile, Richard Hart of Trinidad and Tobago completed the hat-trick of titles in the Men’s Over 60.

Winning the Women Over-40 was Rhea Khan of Trinidad and Tobago, with Lyn Decambra-Mc Leod of Barbados installed as the 50 and Over Women’s champion.

When the week ended, Barbados had notched up their ninth overall title.

In making it win number nine, after counting titles in 1993, 2001, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015, Barbados retained the veterans’ category for the seventh straight time, was second in the women’s team competition and third in the men’s.

Trinidad and Tobago, the 2016 champions, slipped to third, with Guyana second and the OECS fourth.

The other competing countries, finishing in this order, were Bermuda, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

Guyana solidified their second place by winning the men’s and women’s teams titles.

In the Guyanese team’s triumphs, they had a 3-2 win at the expense of Jamaica in men’s play, and also defeated Barbados women 3-2 in the finals.
