Warriors CC win East Kingstown softball cricket title

The Warriors Cricket Club stopped defending champions of the East Kingstown Sports Association 20/20 softball cricket competition – Bank of SVG All Starz, by seven wickets, to win the 2017 edition, last Sunday afternoon at the Grammar School Playing Field.

All Starz were dismissed for 42 from 11.3 overs. Extras contributed 18 to All Starz’s total, whose batting was unravelled by the bowling of Danroy Currency, who snared 4 for 4 and Rondell Nanton, 2 for 9.

Warriors CC in reply, reached 43 for 4 from 11.2 overs.  Ron Adams took 2 for 8.

In the third place play-off which preceded the final, Dr Thomas Injectors, the 2016 runner-up, slipped to third place, after defeating Alcoholics by 44 runs.

Injectors scored 125 all out in 14.5 overs; Wendell Corridon and Chet Thompson both hit 20 apiece.

Anthony John had 3 for 11 and Mc Neil Morgan, 2 for 17, bowling for Alcoholics.

In reply, Alcoholics could only make 81 for 5 from the allotted 15 overs, as the match was reduced.

Ozico Williams made a top score of 37 not out for Alcoholics, while Roy Lavia had 2 for 11, bowling for Dr Thomas Injectors.

The title for Warriors CC marked a good year for them thus far, having placed second in the SVG Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Hillview competition.

The eight-month-old Warriors’ sights are on the Greiggs competition, as they seek to make an impression on softball cricket in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
