Local netball loses umpire, former executive member

The local netball fraternity is mourning the loss of one of its hard-working match official – Anthony Jack, who was popularly referred to as “Tony”.

Jack, a long-standing umpire and a former executive member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association (SVGNA), died last Saturday afternoon at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Jack served as first vice-president of the SVGNA under the Godfrey Harry-led executive, between 2010 and 2012.

Responding to Jack’s passing, president of the SVGNA Doris Mc Intosh told SEARCHLIGHT, “On behalf of the Executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association and the entire netball fraternity here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the immediate family and other relatives of Anthony “Tony” Jack”.

Mc Intosh added: “Jack was an outstanding netball umpire and coach, who gave dedicated service to the game of netball and also as an executive member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association… We will miss him dearly”.

Apart from umpiring in the national netball tournament, Jack was also a faithful servant to many area tournaments and travelled as St Vincent and the Grenadines’ representative on the umpires’ panel to subregional tournaments.
