Mc Coy, Jordan break into Windwards Volcanoes’ squad

Fast bowlers Obey Mc Coy and Ray Jordan have gained selection to the Windwards Islands Volcanoes for the 2017- 2018 Professional Cricket League.

The left-arm pacer Mc Coy, and Jordan, a right-armer, were selected at last Friday’s draft.

Mc Coy, though, was selected as one of the 10 protected players, while Jordan made it as a drafted selectee.

Mc Coy, who made his debut for the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior team last year, is a former SVG, Windwards and West Indies Under-19 player.

The 20-year-old also got the nod for the UWI Vice-Chancellor’s XI in a 50-over match earlier this year versus England in St Kitts/Nevis.

Apart from his draft into the Volcanoes’ set-up, Mc Coy has been named in the St Lucia Stars for the 2017 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Meanwhile, Jordan, 22, has represented SVG and the Windwards at the U-15 and U-19 levels and the West Indies Under-19. He broke into the SVG senior team for this year’s Windward Islands senior tournament in Dominica.

Jordan, in his debut tournament, collected 9 wickets at 21 runs apiece.

Jordan, though, was a member of the St Lucia Zouks, now the St Lucia Stars in the 2014 CPL.

Mc Coy and Jordan join two other Vincentians, Sunil Ambris and Delorn Johnson, in the Volcanoes’ squad.

The rest of the Volcanoes’ line-up are Devon Smith, Tyrone Theophile, Andre Fletcher, Shane Shillingford, Shermon Lewis, Audy Alexander and Kyle Mayers (protected players) and drafted are Kirk Edwards, Liam Sebastien, Tarryck Gabriel and Roland Cato.

Sebastien was the Volcanoes’ captain for the last three seasons and Edwards, a Barbadian, is a former Barbados captain and a former West Indies vice-captain and has also played for Jamaica in the PCL.

The PCL draft began in 2014. Each of the six franchises has to enlist a minimum of 15 players.

Ten of the players are pre-selected (protected), with the other five determined in draft picks.

A minimum of two players from the draft picks must come from outside of the home territory.

The 2017/2018 PCL begins in November.
