IT-DAT Academy hosts sixth July/August  training camp

From Wednesday, July 12, immediately following national Carnival celebrations, the IT-DAT Track and Field Academy, will be utilizing the long school vacation to put on the sixth edition of its July/ August camp.

The eight-week camp will have the Arnos Vale Sports Complex as the central place of the activities.

Primarily for practising athletes and prospective ones, the camp caters for those between the ages of 10 and 20 years.

The camp runs Monday to Saturday, with two sessions per day. The morning session runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m.

During the camp, the athletes will be exposed to the principles of training, with special emphasis on sprints, hurdles and the lateral jumps.

The main resource person is the IT-DAT Academy’s head coach and founder, Michael Ollivierre, an IAAF Level V coach, who, along with inputs from motivational speakers, will carry out the bulk of the activities.

The motivational speakers will address crucial social issues affecting young people, while sessions on agriculture and horticulture will be done in addition.

Participation in the camp will be predominantly from members of the IT-DAT Academy, with others attending through invitation.

Coming into being June 14, 2012, the IT-DAT Academy’s main objective is to promote the development of track and field in St Vincent and the Grenadines, by identifying talent, providing professional coaching and seeking educational opportunities.

Ultimately, it is the aim of the IT-DAT Academy to develop an environment that can consistently produce professional athletes.
