Sunil Ambris in WI ODI team

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ cricket struck a sweet spot on Tuesday, when senior men’s team captain Sunil Ambris was called up to the West Indies team, for the remainder of the ODI series versus India.

The remaining ODIs are set for the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda, June 30 and July 2, and at the Sabina Oval in Jamaica, July 6.

India leads the five-match series 1-0, having won the second match by 105 runs, last Sunday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, with the first, last Friday, ending in no decision because of rain.

Ambris, a 24-year-old batsman/wicketkeeper has been knocking on the doors of the senior team for some time now, following years of consistent performances in regional tournaments.

At the regional level, Ambris, a right-handed batsman, averages 51.71 in 20 List A matches. During the last Super-50 competition, he struck six half centuries in eight matches.

In first class cricket, Ambris has counted 35 matches, scoring 1,622 runs, at an average of 28.96.

Ambris, during this year’s Professional Cricket League, registered his highest individual score – 231, which is also the best by any batsman from the Windward Islands.

Apart from representing SVG and the Windwards, Ambris has played for the St Lucia Zouks, the Combined Campuses and Colleges, along with the West Indies U-15, U-19, the West Indies President’s XI, the West Indies A and the UWI Vice-Chancellor’s XI.
