SVG unable to stop BVI in OECS Senior Squash
Host St Vincent and the Grenadines could not stop the British Virgin Islands (BVI) from retaining the OECS Senior Squash Championships, when the 2017 edition took place here at the National Squash Centre, Paulâs Avenue, June 1-3.
In taking the title, the BVI secured the menâs and womenâs open, the menâs 40-and-over and the menâs 50-and-over, along with the womenâs and the veteranâs team titles.
The BVIâs Joe Chapman claimed the menâs title by beating SVGâs Jules Snagg in the final, 12-10, 11-4, 5-11, 11-2.
Daniela Schumann, also of the BVI, won the womenâs title, with Zoe Sorrentino, also of the BVI, the runner-up.
Continuing the dominance of the BVI, Joe Faragher-Kneipp earned an 11-3, 11-0, 11-5, triumph at the expense of SVGâs James Bentick, to win the menâs 40-and-over category.
Further up the age ladder, Neville Sorrentino won the menâs 50-and-over, taking out St Luciaâs Carlos Segovia 13-11, 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5 in the final.
In winning the womenâs team title, the BVI overcame the St Vincent and the Grenadines outfit, 2-1 and had a 3-2 scoreline again over SVG, in the veteransâ bracket.
SVG, did not leave the championships empty-handed, as they were rewarded with the womenâs 40-and-over singles title and the menâs team title.
Taking the womenâs 40-and-over singles was Sherian Slater, who had an 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 whipping of the BVIâs Caroline Du Bois, which determined the winner.
And, SVGâs men were unblemished in the teamâs play, beating both the BVI and St Lucia by 4-0 margins.
Making up the SVG menâs unit were Jules Snagg, Jason Doyle, Kevin Hannaway and Kai Bentick.
The OECS Senior Championships were in preparation for the 2017 National Lotteries Authority Caribbean Area Squash Association Senior Squash Championships.
St Vincent and the Grenadines will host the 25th edition of the championships, set for August 13-19.
