Hayley Matthews takes women’s Super-50 MVP award

Barbadian Hayley Matthews was the Most Valuable Player in the Cricket West Indies’ women’s Super-50 cricket tournament, which concluded last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

The 19-year-old Matthews was the leading run scorer in the tournament and was also the joint awardee for Most Wickets.

Matthews scored 158 runs, with a highest score of 56 not out and had an average of 31.6 runs.

A right arm off spinner, Matthews collected 15 wickets, as she and fellow West Indies player Afy Fletcher, from the Windward Islands, shared the Most Wickets accolade.

Matthews’ lot of wickets came at a cost of 6.6 runs apiece, while Fletcher, who is also a right arm off spinner, got hers at 6.2.

And, responsible for the Most Dismissals was Barbados’ wicketkeeper Kycia Knight, who had 10.

Matthews, Fletcher and Knight were members of the West Indies team that won the ICC women’s 20/20 World Cup in India last year.

The West Indies women will contest the ICC World Cup June 24 to July 23, this year in England.

The West Indies play Australia, June 26 in Taunton and India at the same venue June 29.
