Zita Vincent to represent SVG at Junior Carifta games
Zita Vincent will be the lone athlete to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines at the 46th hosting of the Junior Carifta Track and Field championships.
The championships, which run over the Easter weekend, April 15 to 17, take place at the Ergilio Hato Stadium, which is also known as Sentro Deportivo Korsou (SDK), in Panama.
Accompanying Vincent as chaperone will be Chantel Legair.
It will be the second straight year that Vincent will be participating in the annual regional Track and Field Championships.
When Vincent made her debut last year in Grenada, she did not complete the 1,500m female Under-18 event, but finished seventh in the 3,000m Open. Her time in the 3,000m was 11 minutes 00.04 seconds.
At the recent National Lotteries Authority Inter- Secondary Schoolsâ Athletics Championships, Vincent, a student of the Barrouallie Secondary School, established two meet records in the intermediate 800m and the 3000m open.
She set a new time of 2 minutes 27.89 seconds in the 800m, bettering that set by the Girlsâ High Schoolâs Tamara Woodley in 2015.
Vincent also became the new record holder in the 3,000m open, when she clocked 11 minutes 9.56 seconds, demolishing Bethel High Schoolâs Adelaide Carringtonâs long-standing record. Carringtonâs time was 11 minutes 16 .31 seconds, over the distance.
SVG sent a 16-member team to last yearâs edition held in Grenada.
The last time St Vincent and the Grenadines earned a medal at the Junior Carifta Games was Reuberth Boydeâs silver in the Under-20 male 200m, attained at the Kim Collins Stadium in St Kitts in 2015.
