Damion Dublin takes number one TT spot

Damion Dublin is the new No.1 ranked player on the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis ranking table.

Dublin’s rise to the top spot came following results of last Saturday’s competition, held at the Georgetown Secondary School.

But it was Carlton Daniel who emerged winner of the second ranking tournament for 2017.

Daniel and Dublin were engaged in three encounters during the tournament.

Dublin won the first salvo 11-6, 4-11, 11-2, 11-8, with Daniel restoring parity in the second, winning 11-5, 11-7, 13-15, 11-8.

And, when the two squared off in the final, Daniel outscored Dublin 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9.

Daniel had earned a place in the final after ousting Romano Spencer, 14-12, 11-6, 12-10.

According to the St Vincent and the Table Tennis Association, Dublin displaced Robert Ballantyne who was the previous No.1. Ballantyne was absent from last Saturday’s tournament.

In a reshuffle of the top three, Ballantyne slips down to No. 3, while Daniel takes up the No. 2 position on the ranking table.
