French Verandah batsman opens First Division cricket with century

Jeremy Layne opened the 2017 National Lotteries Authority First Division Sunday League cricket competition, by banging a century for last year’s losing finalists French Verandah SVG Community College against newcomers Glamorgan United.

Layne plundered 11 fours and 3 sixes in his knock of 104, made at the Buccament Bay Playing Field, as the College posted 242 all out in 42.1 overs. There were also 36 extras conceded by Glamorgan.

Godfrey Brewster captured 3 for 42, Elvis John, 2 for 27, Adolphus Campbell, 2 for 44 and Chelsea Ottley, 2 for 50, bowling for Glamorgan, whose reply ended at 104 all out in 30.2 overs.

Bowling for the SVG Community College, Jeremy Haywood had 4 for 13, Ronaldo Franklyn, 3 for 40 and Rayshorn John, 2 for 17, as their team won by 138 runs.

At Sion Hill, Victors Two beat Strike Eagles by eight wickets.

Strike Eagles, choosing to bat first, were dismissed for 108 in 25.3 overs. Adrian Stapleton top scored with 25.

For Victors Two, Kishore, Shallow scooped 4 for 25, Jenry Ollivierre, 2 for 4 and Adinol Richards, 2 for 29.

Victors Two, in response, made 109 for the loss of two wickets in 22.2 overs. Denis Byam struck 30, Jardon Jacobs, 28 not out and Kishore Shallow, 20 not out.

Two matches are carded for this Sunday.

In Group A, Smashers and Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward play at Buccament and at Stubbs, Rudy’s Electrical Unique Warriors face Prime Consulting Marriaqua.
