Bentick titles twice in National Junior Squash open

Vincentian Kai Bentick finished with two titles at the St Vincent and the Grenadines National Junior Squash Tournament, held February 24 and 25, at the National Squash Centre in Paul’s Avenue.

Bentick trumped in both the male Under-19 and the male Under-19 mixed categories.

Playing without a hitch, Bentick, who holds an Under-19 world ranking of 54th, defeated fellow Vincentians Rashid Constance, Geronimo Ross and Mikal Lavar Quashie.

At the world level, Quashie holds the 34th rank and Ross, 137th.

Winning all in straight sets, Bentick swamped Constance 11-1, 11-1, 11-0, and dismissed Ross 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 and Quashie, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.

In winning the mixed category, Bentick received a bye, then dispatched Jada Smith Padmore of Barbados 11-3, 11-4, 11-3, and also saw off Quashie, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.

The other title won in the two-day tournament was copped by Jada Smith-Padmore, who registered an 11-4, 11-6, 11-8 triumph over her sister Jodi Smith-Padmore, en route to the female Under-19 title.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association will, on March 17 and 18, host the National Junior Trials.
