Owia Gov’t School holds Sports Day Awards ceremony

The Owia Government School (OGS) hosted their Sports Day Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 17. This awards ceremony was made possible with generous donations from the East Caribbean Group of Companies, parent company of Ju-C and the National Lotteries Authority of St Vincent and the Grenadines. The two organizations donated all of the medals and trophies that were presented at the ceremony.

There were over 75 events and the top three finishers in each event received medals. Trophies were also awarded to the six girls and six boys who finished first in their age category. An additional trophy was awarded to Victor Ludorum Nathan Warrick and co-Victrixes Ludorum Divine Hoyte and Kiera Lavia.

Captain of champion Blue House, Lavia, who was the Victrix for the second year in a row, said “It was an honour to receive all the individual awards and to accept the Challenge Trophy on behalf of Blue House”. She also thanked both the National Lotteries Authority and ECGC for their support.

The smiles on the students’ faces were as wide as goal posts, as they walked home wearing their medals, as if it was their new favourite accessory and proudly declaring where they were going to put their new hardware.

According to headteacher Natasha Nero, “Children love the idea of being awarded for their hard work, so it is always a pleasure to present the medals and trophies to the deserving students”.

The National Lotteries Authority and ECGC have been helping schools throughout the country and Nero asked the community and the general public to “continue to support these two great organizations,” so that they can continue the support of the schools.

“Thanks again to East Caribbean Group of Companies and the National Lotteries Authority of St Vincent and the Grenadines on behalf of Owia Government School.”
