Cammie Adams lengthens cycling field

There was a 24-minute difference between the winner — Cammie Adams and second place — Lucky Antrobus and third place — Zefal Bailey in last Sunday’s 62-mile road race, as the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union ticked off another event on its 2015 calendar.{{more}}

Adams stopped the clock at 3 hours 18 minutes 39 seconds to boss the Elite category.

Antrobus crossed the finish line after riding for 3 hours 42 minutes 52 seconds and Bailey in 3 hours 42 minutes 53 seconds.

They started off at Howard’s Marine in Villa Flat, rode to the Roundabout in Arnos Vale then to Georgetown, return to the Roundabout. From there, they cycled to Diamond Roundabout route twice, finishing where they started.

Seeking to make the final cut for the OECS championships in Anguilla July 3, the top three will have others to deal with when the national championships take place here on June 28.

Expected in for the championships are US based Dominic Ollivierre and Tortola based Orano Andrews.

Also contesting in last Sunday’s race were the Senior and Junior cyclists, who did shorter distances.

Bagging the junior segment was Bradley Charles in a time of 2 hours 37 minutes 44 seconds; second was Samuel Lyttle in 2 hours 37 minutes 49 seconds; and third was Quasim Thomas, who was timed at 2 hours 42 minutes 38 seconds.

The junior cyclists started off at Howard’s Marine to Georgetown, finishing at the starting point.

Meanwhile, the seniors’ route was from the starting point to Georgetown, then to the Roundabout in Arnos Vale and completed where they began.

Taking the top spot in the Masters category was the ever-present Peter Durrant. His winning time was 2 hours 26 minutes 36 seconds. Docking in second was Randy Wilkinson in 2 hours 26 minutes 44 seconds, with the warrior Orel George in 2 hours 57 minutes 32 seconds.

Lewis Pharmacy provided the top three places in the Elite and Seniors categories with supplements, in recompense for their efforts.(RT)
