SVGNOC observes Olympic Week

The National Olympic Committee of St Vincent and the Grenadines will this week host a number of activities to commemorate Olympic Week.{{more}}

The week opened last Sunday with a church service at the Kingstown Evangelical Church.

A three-day exhibition from today, Tuesday, is one of the main highlight events of the week.

A display of memorabilia at the SVG National Trust in Kingstown will consume the focus until Friday, the conclusion of the exhibition.

Meanwhile, plans are in train also to have table tennis at the West St George Secondary School on the evening of Tuesday, with tennis slated to take place on Friday at the National Tennis Centre at Villa.

Saturday is set aside for squash at the National Squash Centre at Paul’s Avenue, with a road relay and cycling earmarked for Georgetown.

Sunday will see the bulk of the sporting activities taking place in Layou.

Jackson Bay is the venue for swimming and rowing events from 1 p.m.

Taekwondo, three on three basketball, beach volleyball, netball and cycling from the Layou Government School around Rutland Vale, main road, back to the Layou Playing Field, are also penned.

Also slated for the day are bocce from Special Olympics, rugby and Grassroots/Fun Football will precede the Olympic Day Run around Layou.

At the end of the run, there will be the distribution of Olympic Day Participation Certificates and distribution of MOVE, LEARN, DISCOVER leaflets.

The week culminates on Tuesday, June 23 with the Olympic Day messages from the International Olympic Committee president and SVGNOC president.
