The fixing of the hard court at the Clive Tannis facility in Bequia, as well as technical support for the sport, are what netballers on the island have stressed as their immediate needs.{{more}}

Captain of the Bequia Ballers Emril Ollivierre ventilated the cravings of her peers last Friday to SEARCHLIGHT, following her team’s success in taking the Division Three knockout competition of the LIME Vincy Upgrade National Club Tournament.

“They (the authorities) need to help us with the court, as it needs some repairing… We also need to get more umpires to come down (from the mainland) and help us, so that the more young people can get involved in the game,” Ollivierre lamented.

Ollivierre noted that plans are in motion to host a competition on the island.

Commenting on her team’s victory in the knockout finals, Ollivierre said, “I feel good… I feel great that for the first time we have reached the final and have won.”

Bequia Ballers beat Dutch Lady Clinchers 45-40 in a keenly contested final, held at the Kingstown Netball Centre at New Montrose.

In the process, Bequia Ballers prevented Clinchers from repeating doing the double.

Clinchers, in 2014, won both the League and Knockout titles and had taken the 2015 League competition, thus earning promotion to Division Two in 2016.

Ollivierre believes that by the team taking a piece of silverware, it will spark interest in netball in Bequia.

Meanwhile, Bequia Ballers’ manager Marlon James also told SEARCHLIGHT that the triumph was very much welcomed by his team.

James, a former national football captain, who played professionally in Malaysia and Canada, revealed that Bequia Ballers would have a second outfit in next year’s national club netball tournament.(RT)
