Team Rivals make it four in a row

Team Rivals have made it four in a row of titles in the National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national cricket competition.{{more}}

Their undisturbed reign at the top of the heap was achieved last weekend, by avoiding defeat against their nearest rival – Guardian General Saints.

Duelling at the Sion Hill Playing Field, Saints batted first and scored 196 all out, as Rickford Walker struck 86.

Returning to the team after a few weeks absence, Walker, batting at the top of the order, lashed six fours and four sixes and Rommel Currency got 50.

Both shared in a third wicket stand of 110 for the third wicket. Currency’s knock included two fours, seven 2’s and 28 singles.

Deighton Butler, who has turned to some slower bowling, used his guile against the Saints’ right-handed batsmen to snare 5 for 65.

Opening bowler Roneil Jeffrey took 2 for 6, and the wily Olanzo Jackson picked up 2 for 42.

In reply, Team Rivals, with several of their key batsmen – Hyron Shallow, Marvin Small, Casmond Walters – chose the obdurate route.

Rivals were eventually dismissed for 161, with Roneil Jeffrey making the top score of 23.

Bowling for Saints, Rolando Wright bagged 7 for 47 and part time bowler Rommel Currency had 3 for 39.

Rivals finished on 131 points and Saints 123.

Whilst Team Rivals are in an unassailable position, some teams still have matches in hand.

Lime Radcliffe has Victors One and Triumph United on their agenda, while Victors One has also an engagement with the News Spartans.
