This was made known last Friday afternoon at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex, during the closing ceremony of the 2015 Kiddy Cricket Skills Festival.

The quintet vyeing for the award were the top performers at last Friday’s final.

Eligible are the best fielder – Ashley Marks of the South Rivers Primary; best bowler – Elvin Ashton of the Fancy Government, as well as the best batsman – Kamal Lewis of the Sion Hill Government School.

Also in the mix are the Fitz-Hughes Government School’s duo of Gideon Murray and Deaquan Jordan, who were adjudged the best catching duo.

Giving remarks at the ceremony, representative of the local branch Norman Cumberbatch noted that the recipient would be given the amount in the form of a start-up bank account. The offer is based on his or her cricketing skills, coupled with his/her academics.

Cumberbatch said the gesture was part of the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the coming into being of Kiddy Cricket in the region.

Meanwhile, committee member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Rommel Currency reinforced to the young cricketers, the importance of paying attention to the academics.

Currency underlined that Kiddy Cricket, has over the years, been the platform for international cricketers to launch their professional career, noting that five cricketers in the recent test series between the West Indies and England, came through the ranks of Kiddy Cricket. West Indies players Kemar Roach, Kraigg Braithwaite, Darren Bravo, Jermaine Blackwood and English player Chris Jordan, were Currency’s references.

Jordan was born in Barbados and played most of his developmental cricket there, before migrating to England.

Kiddy Cricket is the brainchild of Dr Michael Seepersaud, then chief Cricket Development officer of the West Indies Cricket Board.
