Taking the Most Valuable Player award was Emerald George, who turned out to be the general in the midfield and scored two of his team’s six goals.

Myron Samuel was the top goal scorer with four strikers, netting in all three matches. And, Winslow Mc Dowall, who conceded three goals, was voted the tournament’s best goalkeeper, thus copping the Golden Glove trophy.

More incentives

When the team returned home on Sunday night, more good news greeted them at a welcoming ceremony at the ET Joshua Airport.

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs informed the players that they are in line for additional monetary rewards.

Apart from the stipend given prior to their travel to St Lucia, extra perks would be paid to them for trumping the tournament.

“I sent messages to you… Guys, if you win the Windward Islands tournament, what the manager gave to you, you will get more here,” Coombs related.

Coombs told the players that he and team manager Othneil Douglas would soon sit and work out the terms of the payments.

“I thank you for what you have done for St Vincent and the Grenadines football… You have made Vincentians here and abroad mightily proud… It was long in coming,” the local football head commented.

The senior team will continue their training, as they head to the more competitive World Cup qualifiers, with their first outing on June 10 against the Guyana Jaguars at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
