Defending champions ousted at Big Sixteen stage

CGM Gallagher Novice ended their hold on the St Vincent Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers T20 cricket competition, losing at the Big Sixteen stage of the competition.{{more}}

Novice were escorted to the exit by Smashers last Sunday at the Richland Park Oval.

Smashers, led by Junior Ashton who struck 40 with five sixes and three fours and Keneil Richards – 28 with three sixes and one four, saw their team to 127.

Novice were at one point tottering at 10 for 3.

Renrick Williams took 4 for 22 and Chrisroy King 2 for 18.

Set 128 to stay in the competition, the defending champions meekly succumbed for 80 in 18 overs.

Travis Peters snared 4 for 10, creaming off the top of Novice’s batting, as Smashers won by 47 runs.

Also on Sunday, Owia Young Strikers overpowered RSVG Police by six wickets.

Police, who were inserted, could only make 38, shackled by the bowling of Zimroy Roberts – 4 for 3; Randel Munroe – 3 for 5 and Denson Lavia – 2 for 1.

Owia Young Strikers then rushed to 39 for 4 in 7.2 overs.

Osrick James threatened with 4 for 11, but the RSVG Police could not detain the Young Strikers’ batting with any force.(RT)
