But they were to do so without captain Dorren Hamlett, who was sent off in the opening match against Grenada, after receiving two yellow cards.

Hopes were high going to last night’s match after the Vincentians had come away 3-2 victors over Grenada on Tuesday evening.

A release from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation said the Vincentians’ goals came from Myron Samuel (two) and Emerald George (one).

The release stated that Samuel netted from a tap in after Emerald George had crossed perfectly in the 75th minute.

Samuel reportedly converted a penalty and the go ahead goal in the 87th minute.

George had opened the tally in the 33rd minute, with Grenada registering their items in the 36th and 78th minutes.

Reports say that both teams were guilty of squandering several opportunities.

In the other match on that night, host St Lucia was held to a 1-1 draw with Dominica.

Also set for last evening was the first of the double header which should have featured Grenada and Dominica.

The tournament closes off tomorrow, Saturday, when St Vincent and the Grenadines meet Dominica in the first match, to be followed by Grenada versus St Lucia.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ starting XI versus Grenada comprises: Winslow McDowall (GK), Roy Richards, Reginald Richardson, Glenroy Ashton, Damal Francis, Dorren Hamlett, Kyle Edwards, Damal Francis, Emerald George, Myron Samuel, Dennis Prescott.

Substitutes used: Nazir Mc Burnette, Juma Gilkes and Chavel Cunningham. Unused substitutes: Sylvannus Baptiste, Keith James, Vasbert Ledger, Azhino Solomon and Jolanshoy Mc Dowall.
