James Bentick joins elite squash coaches’ list

Vincentian squash coach James Bentick has joined an elite bunch of coaches who are certified to certify others.

Bentick got his elevation after he attended a World Squash Federation course put on by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) in Guatemala recently.{{more}}

From a batch of 48 candidates drawn from North, South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, Bentick was among 10 who were assigned the role of tutors.

“I can conduct coaches’ courses and can certify coaches at level one,” Bentick told SEARCHLIGHT.

Bentick, David Scott of Trinidad and Tobago, and Karen Meakins of Barbados were the three from the Caribbean who attained such status.

“I have been coaching for a long time and now I have rolled over to tutoring, I am pleased with this latest achievement,” Bentick added.

Accepting the promotion with gratitude, Bentick believes it is a plus not only for himself, but for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“It is a big step for me and it puts St Vincent and the Grenadines up there among the bigger countries in terms of persons with that coaching ability,” Bentick said.

Bentick, who was recently elected president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association, does not see his new designation causing any neglect of his administrative duties.

On the contrary he opined, “It makes me a more rounded individual, where I can look at all aspects… It also makes me three-dimensional; locally, regionally and internationally and it also opens up opportunities for the Caribbean as a whole.”

Bentick is also the national squash coach of St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as the sub-regional OECS teams.(RT)
