Joachim made his plea known last Wednesday at the ET Joshua Airport, during a welcoming ceremony to hail the achievements of Shne Joachim, who copped three medals at the 2015 Carifta Swim Championships, which was held in Barbados.

“What really matters is the partnership. We need to work together… we need to figure a way to work together in this country, regardless to our political views,” Joachim said.

“It is administrators that kill sports…. It is coaches that kill sports…. Not the athletes and young people that kill sports and we have to figure a way to work together, otherwise we are wasting time,” Joachim continued.

A strong advocate for inclusion, Joachim noted “Sports is easy, all you have to remember it is about the young people… Focus on the young people and everything will fall into the place …. It is very, very easy….We are encouraged by what we are seeing.”

Joachim said that the discipline shown by the young sporting population, in terms of their dedication to training, is good reason for sports to be placed higher on the national agenda.

The swim head used the forum to commend the efforts of Reuberth Boyde, who attained a silver medal in the male Under-20 200 metres at the Carifta Games, held in St Kitts over the Easter weekend.

Joachim said that with the limited resources, the nation’s young sportsmen and women are doing relatively well, given their disadvantages in facilities.

Speaking in the presence of Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Cecil Mc Kie and president of Team Athletics SVG Keith Joseph, Joachim advised: “We can’t run on grass track, so let us start doing with a grass track first, let us start doing something… We don’t have to start with a national stadium, we need to start with something and gradually build hopefully.”(RT)
