Novice cricketers show softer side

CGM Gallagher Novice, one of the more accomplished softball cricket outfits in the land, and known to be sometimes ruthless against their opponents with both ball and bat, displayed their caring side last Sunday to the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre.{{more}}

The team, last Sunday, presented to the centre a quantity of toiletries, food stuff, snacks and stationery.

Renrick Williams, speaking on behalf of Novice, noted that their donation to the centre is an example of the new thrust of the team.

“As young men, we set out as a team on a verge to reach out to people in and around the community … We agreed that they were the perfect people to start with.

“They are young children; they (were) probably abandoned by family members, some of them who have either migrated or died and we see it fit that we could reach out to them and show them that there are people who still care and think about them,” Williams added.

He said it was easy to identify with the centre, as the boys are temporarily being housed at the Dauphine Community Centre, which is within the general locale of most members of the team.

Williams said that it was the players themselves who used their funds to purchase the items donated to the centre.

Looking forward to a long partnership, Williams agreed “It is a start and we promise them that it would not be the first and the last.”

Eldon John, house master at the centre, thanked the Novice outfit for their gesture, as the items would make the lives of the 13 boys currently at the centre more comfortable.

The establishment of the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre dates back to 1969.(RT)
