A release from the SVGSF says stringent standards have been put in place to ensure that swimmers selected to compete at Carifta are competitive.

“In 2014, we had our best performance at Carifta with all three members making it to finals and Shne Joachim winning her second Carifta medal and setting a new record,” the release said.

The five member team selected to represent SVG in 2015 are Shne Joachim, Nikolas Sylvester, Shane Cadogan and Alexander Joachim, with Kyle Dougan being the coach.

Shne Joachim is the current 2014 Sports Personality of the year in SVG and had an outstanding 2014 year which including record breaking performances at several Caribbean meets. Shne is the current Carifta record holder in the 50 meter Breaststroke. This will be her final year competing in the age 13 to 14 category.

Nikolas Sylvester is the current Junior Sportsman of the Year in SVG. Nik has broken Breaststroke records in several countries in the Caribbean and has had an excellent start to his 2015 campaign by winning the Gold medal in the 50 Meter Breaststroke at the Barbados National Championships recently. This will be his final year competing in the age 13 to 14 category.

Shane Cadogan moves up to the age 13 to 14 category this year and while we know this will be a challenge for him, we still expect excellent performances.

Alexander Joachim has qualified for the team in his first year of eligibility and will swim as an 11 year-old in the age 11 to 12 category. This will be the first time that Alex will compete at this level and we know he will give his best.

Kyle Dougan will be the team coach and he is the two-time Coach of the Year in SVG. All four swimmers above have been developed and coached by Kyle.

Carifta 2015 is an official Pan Am Games and FINA World Championships qualifying event. It is expected to be an extremely competitive event with swimmers representing over 20 Caribbean nations.
