Team Rivals are victors of national twenty/20 cricket again

Team Rivals have once more taken a national cricket title.

Last Sunday, the formidable unit pouched the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams Twenty/20 crown at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.{{more}}

Team Rivals’ dominance was underlined when they reeled off another commanding win over Victors One.

Inserted by Team Rivals, Victors One laboured to 127 for nine after a promising start.

Miles Bascombe at the top of the order struck 29, before he gifted his wicket to Deighton Butler’s first ball.

The rest of the batting flattered to deceive, as many got starts, but failed to push on.

Victors One also shot themselves in the foot, soaking up many dot balls and inexplicably fiddling with the batting order.

Casmond Walters — 3 for 19, Roland Wilkinson — 2 for 19 and Kesrick Williams — 2 for 13, shared the bulk of the wickets that fell.

Victors One was further hamstrung when one of their key bowlers, Norlan Williams, was unable to continue after suffering an injury attempting to save the ball from going to the long off boundary.

Besides this, the potent Team Rivals batting went to work from the get go, as openers Marvin Small and Hyron Shallow tore into the Victors One’s attack.

Small struck six fours before he was adjudged LBW to Donwell Hector, while Shallow blasted 50, which included three sixes and one four, before he was run out with the scores level.

Shallow was floored by a fierce shot from Walters, at which fast bowler Shaquille Browne chose to run him out.

Shallow and Walters, who made 43 not out, put together a second wicket stand of 72. Walters hit four fours and three sixes in his unbeaten knock.

Team Rivals achieved their target when Roneil Jeffrey hoisted Browne for a six off the last ball of the 19th over.

It meant that Team Rivals had retained the title. The last competition was staged in 2013.

Team Rivals also completed the hat-trick of titles in the two-day Premier Division title in 2014 and also last year retained the Super-40 title.

Team Rivals turn their sights on the Premier Division when they meet newly promoted Triumph United at Arnos Vale One, this Saturday and Sunday, as the 2015 edition bowls off. (RT)
