No surprises in TASVG’s road race finale
There were no surprises when Team Athletics SVG staged its 5K road race finale last Sunday afternoon, from Trotmanâs Depot at Arnos Vale to the intersection of Halifax Street and North River Road.
Chatoyerâs Pamenos Ballantyne was the first to cross the finish line, pouching the Open Male category in a time of 16 minutes 42.76 seconds, with Junior Ashton taking the second spot in 17 minutes 03.55 seconds.{{more}} Taking the third place and making it two and three for the X-Cel Sports Club was Cyron Lewis in 17 minutes 14.41 seconds.
In the Open Female segment, top distance athlete Linda Mc Dowall ran away from the field to give the IT-DAT Academy the top place in 19 minutes 03.65 seconds. Second was X-Ceed Sports Clubâs Sheva Butcher, in 26 minutes 22.12 seconds and third was Sandreka Hopper who ran for the Richmond Vale Academy, and clocked 27 minutes 52.19 seconds.
As he did for the whole of last yearâs road racing calendar, Newman Peters of the St Martinâs Secondary School won the Under-15 Male division, returning a time of 20 minutes 49.052 seconds. It was another St Martinâs Secondary student â Truloni Mc Kenzie who was second. Mc Kenzieâs time was 21 minutes 08.41 seconds, ahead of Markie Edwards of Petit Bordel Secondary in 22 minutes 21.75 seconds.
The promising Zita Vincent clocked 23 minutes 01.12 seconds to win the Female Under-15.
Sarika Hopper of the Troumaca Primary School placed second in 24 minutes 26.71 seconds, with Odesha John of X-Ceed Sports Club closing out the top three in 24 minutes 32.47 seconds.
Winning the Under-19 Male category was Akani Slater of IT-DAT Academy, whose first place time was 17 minutes 58.08 seconds. He was followed by Orenzo Trimmingham of Rising Stars Basketball Club of Bequia, in 18 minutes 13.03 seconds.
Slyford Lampkin of IT-DAT Academy placed third in 18 minutes 35.44 seconds.
But it was a skimp Female Under-19, as two competitors started and completed the journey. Shaqueil Laborde of the Petit Bordel Secondary won in 26 minutes 29.68 seconds and second was Kerry Ann Small of the St Vincent Technical College, in 29 minutes 38 seconds.
Samantha Lynch, in a time of 28 minutes 50.65 seconds won the Female Over-40; second was Marguerite Douglas â 30 minutes 39.05 seconds and third Denisha Harry â 39 minutes 13.31 seconds. Caswin Prince copped the Male Over-40 in 19 minutes 14.86 seconds, with Kentish Bowens second in 20 minutes 43.18 seconds and third was Joonyah Garrick in 23 minutes 22.88 seconds. Sundayâs finale was a held over from last yearâs road racing calendar of Team Athletics SVG.
Forty-four of the 65 finalists contested last Sundayâs race.(RT)
