Assessing his charges, coach and head man of IT-DAT, Michael Ollivierre, told SEARCHLIGHT: “We are looking to carry 16 athletes to the relay fair, eight in the Under-20 and eight in the over-20….I am confident that our team will not only give a good account of itself, but will be competitive and do well.

“We are not only representing the club per se, but St Vincent and the Grenadines, so any accolade achieved would not be for us alone, but for the entire nation,” Ollivierre rationalized.

Ollivierre noted that the full participation of the club is contingent on funds, and is appealing to firms, corporate businesses and other good-natured Vincentians who can chip in, to realize the desires of the young athletes, “as we not going there to participate, but to compete.”

IT-DAT is expected to contest the 4×100, the 4×400 and the Medley relay, which consists of two legs of 200 metres, with the others being 400 and 800m.

The open 4×800 metres race is also among the events listed in which the IT-DAT athletes would seek to be on the podium.

The relay fair will also see categories Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Over-45.

Apart from IT-DAT, the St Vincent Grammar School and the Thomas Saunders Secondary School are expected to be part of the annual relays extravaganza. (RT)
