Several playing fields set for upgrade

Several playing fields across the mainland are in line for upgrade, with the most significant improvement earmarked for the Chilli Playing Field in Georgetown.{{more}}

The plans were disclosed last Sunday, when Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves addressed the opening of the All Windward Football Competition at the Chilli Playing Field.

“When the competition finishes at the end of this month, I am going to ask the National Lotteries (Authority) take possession of the field, because we are going to build a small pavilion, changing rooms for the players. “…We are going to dig up the field and we are going to do it over completely,” Gonsalves promised.

“I want to see a start very shortly — Cane End; Cumberland is an important one … We have Hope — another important one … I have mobilized some resources so we can do them together and we will have a schedule over the next few months and I want you to hold me to that,” Gonsalves added.

Both the Chilli Playing Field and the Cane End Playing Field had significant work done on them during the period when the Social Investment Fund project was in effect, between 2009 and 2011.

Also making brief remarks at the opening were area representative for South Central Windward Saboto Caesar; director of Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks and president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs.(RT)
