Bascombe back in Windwards One-Day team

Vincentian Miles Bascombe has regained the confidence of the Windward Islands senior selectors and is back in the set-up.

Having last represented the four-island grouping in the Nagico 50-over tournament, back in 2013, the right-handed batsman has earned a recall for the 2014 edition.{{more}}

Bascombe, who has also represented the Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) in the then West Indies Cricket Board 50-over and Twenty/20 competitions, has had a patchy run for the Windwards.

After making his first class debut for the Windwards in the regional four-day tournament in 2007, Bascombe has not had a call since 2010.

During his stop-start first class career, Bascombe has counted 16 matches along the way.

In August 2011, Bascombe made his international Twenty/20 debut for the West Indies versus England at the Oval, which has been his lone outing for the regional team.

Bascombe will be part of the Liam Sebastian led Windwards Volcanoes, who have been drawn in Zone A of the tournament, alongside defending champions Barbados, Guyana and the CCC.

The full Windwards team reads: Liam Sebastian (captain), Miles Bascombe, Alston Bobb, Johnson Charles, Craig Emmanuel, Andre Fletcher, Kaveem Hodge, Delorn Johnson, Keddy Lesporis, Mervin Matthew, Kenroy Peters, Dalton Polius, Shane Shilingford and Devon Smith.

Along with the fourteen named, four reserves – Taryck Gabriel, Josh Thomas, Kenneth Dember and Keron Cottoy have been listed.

The Windwards began a two-week camp in Dominica from last weekend in preparation for the tournament, which bowls off on January 12.

They open their campaign against Guyana at the Queen’s Park Oval, in Port of Spain, January 15.

The Windwards, winners in 2013, lost all three preliminary matches in 2014, going under to Barbados, Jamaica and Ireland.

While the Windwards battle in Zone A, host Trinidad and Tobago , Jamaica, the Leewards and West Indies Under-19 contest Zone B.(RT)
