Simple Boys stand tall again in TBPO softball competition

Gairy’s Construction Simple Boys remain champions of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation’s Twenty/20 Softball Cricket Competition.{{more}}

The formalities were carried out last Sunday at the Dauphine Playing Field, when Simple Boys defused Gomea Bombers in the finals.

Gomea Bombers were stifled by the bowling of Casmond Walters – 3 for 21 and Elric Morris – 2 for 16, and could only reach 73 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Desron Maloney then blistered 34, as Simple Boys responded with 75 for 2 in just 8.1 overs, in what turned out to be a no contest.

Maloney left the venue with the player of the final award.

Meanwhile, CGM Gallagher Novice made good of the third place play off, sedating Dr Thomas Injectors by 56 runs.

Novice tallied 128 for 8 from their 20 overs: Hyron Shallow – 42 and Renrick Williams – 26.

Qesnell Cottoy was Injectors most successful bowler, taking 2 for 15.

Dr Thomas Injectors were dismissed for 72 in 14. 1 overs; Neil Audain topscored with 31.

Andre Hunte- 3 for 10 and Hyron Shallow- 3 for 18, bowled Novice to victory.

At the presentation of awards which followed the finals, Stein Joseph collected the prize for scoring the most runs in the competition – 249. He was also one of two centurions, and the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The other batsman to hit a century was Bank of SVG All Stars’ Asquith Mapp.

Another award was pouched by Mapp, as his 236 runs, was the most during the preliminary round of competition.

Elric Morris was the top wicket taker with 19 scalps. St Clair Dickson (13) and Kamara Peniston (11) were the top wicket takers in the first round.

Simple Boys pocketed $3,000; Gomea Bombers – $2,000; Novice – $ 1,000 and Dr Thomas Injectors – $500, as the teams were the first to be the beneficiaries of an increase in prize monies this year.

Simple Boys won the Ball O Rama competition, which opened the 2014 edition. Stingers were adjudged the Most Disciplined Team.(RT)
