Deighton Butler palms major award in masters cricket

Deigthton Butler announced his entry to the SVG Masters Cricket Competition, by copping the Man of the Series accolade.

Butler, a former St Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards left arm fast bowler, and who has represented the West Indies at the One Day International level, was also named the Man of the Match, as his team reeled off a 26-run win over Sion Hill in last Sunday’s final played at the Park Hill Playing Field.{{more}}

Like Butler, North East debuted in the competition in 2014.

At the lower tier of recognition, former St Vincent and the Grenadines batsman – Keyon Jack of Sion Hill was the leading run scorer with 236 runs.

Sharing in the awards was Conroy Ryan of Carlos James North Leeward – the leading wicket taker with 15 wickets.

Sion Hill’s Augustine Victory won the play of the match for his catch to dismiss Cornelius Springer in last Sunday’s final.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Austin of Metrocint/ Sagicor Richards Masters collected the award for achieving the lone hat trick in the competition. His achievement came against Carlos James North Leeward.

Also, the Stanley Browne’s Stubbs duo of Dawnley Joseph and Christopher Campbell were the two centurions in the competition.

Campbell scored 102 against Computec Belfongo, while Joseph struck 106 not out versus Cato’s Heavy Equipment Glamorgan.

North East, who played unbeaten in the competition champed Zone A, while losing finalist – Sion Hill topped Zone B.

Sion Hill had lost their first match against RSVG Police by default, having insufficient players when the match was called at the Buccament Playing Field. (RT)
