Simple Boys to defend TBPO Softball Cricket title

Defending champions of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation twenty/20 Softball Cricket Competition – Gairy’s Construction Simple Boys will have another crack at the title, when they meet Gomea Bombers in the finals.{{more}}

The finals take place this Sunday from 2 p.m. Both advanced last Sunday at the Dauphine Playing Field, as semifinal action took centre stage. Simple Boys took care of Dr Thomas Injectors, by six wickets, while Gomea Bombers eked out a one wicket win over a former winner of the competition – CGM Gallagher Novice.

Dr Thomas Injectors were dismissed for 65 in 17 overs; Travis Cumberbatch – 4 for 14, Casmond Walters – 2 for 11 and Elric Morris – 2 for 16, bowling for Simple Boys.

Walters hit 27, as Simple Boys sped to 70 for 4 in 8. 4 overs.

But Gomea Bombers had to rely on the last wicket pair to see them over the line.

Chasing 110 to win, the 2012 losing finalist, Gomea Bombers finished on 111 for 9, with three balls to spare. Osborne Franklyn topped the batting with 19.

Bowling for Novice, Westrick Straugh took 3 for 16; Zane Edwards – 2 for 22 and Hyron Shallow – 2 for 25.

When Novice batted, Desron Spring hit 22, and Elton Williams and Roderick John- 20 each, in their team’s total of 109 all out in 18.4 overs.

Alwayne Quashie had 3 for 31; Raymond Sayers – 2 for 7, Osborne Franklyn – 2 for 31 and Ricky King – 2 for 35.

Before meeting Novice, Gomea Bombers had to overcome Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem on Sunday morning.

Nar Fren Dem reached 93 all out in 16 overs; Shamic Roberts was the staple of the innings with 57 , as Alwayne Quashie took 3 for 4 and Osborne Franklyn – 2 for 23.

Bombers responded with 98 for 7 in 19.4 overs.

Bernard Bushay topscored with 35. Bowling for Nar Fren Dem, Cody Jarvis had 2 for 11 and Kenford Collis – 2 for 14.

Like Gomea Bombers, Simple Boys had to first overcome Smashers on Saturday.

Desron Maloney grabbed 3 for 8, Travis Cumberbatch – 2 for 11 and Elric Morris – 2 for 14, helped dismiss Smashers for 47.

Jabarri Cunningham then stroked 27 not out, to see Simple Boys to 48 for 1, and a win by nine wickets.

Saturday’s other match resulted in Novice powering past Browne and Browne Richmond Hill by 67 runs.

Roderick John – 22, as Novice made 100 all out in 15 overs. Johnny Trimmingham bagged 5 for 28 and Deptor Culzac – 2 for 5.

Richmond Hill was strangled by the bowling of Zane Edwards – 3 for 3 and Richie Richards – 2 for 2, making 33 for 8 from their 15 overs.

Prior to Sunday’s finals, Dr Thomas Injectors and Novice play in the third place from 10:00 am.
