Masters Cricket competition reaches last four

A new champion will be crowned when the 2014 SVG Masters Cricket Competition reaches its conclusion on December 14.{{more}}

This, after last year’s winners LOG Enterprises Kingstown suffered at the hands of North East last Sunday at the Park Hill Playing Field.

North East scored 150 for 5 off their 20 overs, batting first. Winsbert Springer was 43 not out, and Arnold Gilkes and Harvey Pope both scored 29. Kingstown went tumbling for 94 all out in 14 overs; Joseph Medford top scored with 37. Cornelius Springer grabbed 4 for 19, as North East won by 56 runs.

Also at the Park Hill venue, Sion Hill recorded a six-wicket win over Bequia, to earn a place in the last four.

Batting first, Bequia scored 150 all out in 18.2 overs. Leading the way was Ashley Cordice, who hit 79 and Burton Forde contributed 27.

Bowling for Sion Hill, Medford took 3 for 8 and Andrew Bramble 3 for 22.

Good scores from Keyon Jack – 44, Sylvester Vanloo – 40 not out and Bill Edwards – 33, saw Sion Hill to 153 for 4 off 19 overs.

Meanwhile at the Stubbs Playing Field, Carlos James North Leeward and RSVG Police were victors.

North Leeward sidelined St Vincent Cooperative Bank Ptani by 38 runs.

North Leeward reached 154 for 6, batting their maximum 20 overs. Walliston Stapleton struck 45 and David Ellis 23.

Isaac Haywood was the pick of Ptani’s bowling, taking 3 for 29.

In response, Ptani could only make 116 for 9 from their 20 overs; Alfred McKenzie scored 21. Conrad Ryan snared 4 for 31 and Earl Charles 3 for 20, bowling for North Leeward.

And, RSVG Police defeated Stanley Browne’s Stubbs by seven wickets.

The home team, on the back of Dawnley Joseph’s 30 and Leon Samuel’s 28, compiled 134 for 8 off their 20 overs.

Parnel Browne, with 3 for 28, was Police’s main wicket taker.

Browne then crowned off a good all-round effort, as he made 54 not out and with Jeffrey Laborde – 34 not out, saw their team to 138 for 3 in 18.3 overs.

The match-ups for the semi-finals set for Saturday, December 13, see RSVG Police meeting North East and North Leeward taking on Sion Hill.
