Last Friday at the Arnos Netball Complex, the Central Leeward Secondary claimed the Junior Division of the Ministry of Education tournament.

In assessing his team’s win over the Bethel High, Gaymes told SEARCHLIGHT that the players’ involvement in the Barrouallie competition aided in their chemistry.

“I try to get them into teams as much as they can, so that they can get the necessary preparations for this tournament,” Gaymes confirmed.

Gaymes, who is also part of the Barrouallie Sports Association, organizers of the area tournament, noted that this was possible because most of the players reside in that locale.

He added, “This was done also because of the short time we have to prepare the team at the start of the term and when the competition begins.”

In the final match, Central Leeward earned a six-goal win over Bethel High, thus stopping them from making it three in a row.

The two schools met in 2012 and 2013, with Bethel coming away winners on both occasions.

Assessing his charges’ efforts on Friday, Gaymes stated: “We would have done our homework from previous years… We know Bethel is a running team, so the players were told to slow the game down and reserve the energy for the last quarter.”

Gaymes believes that with all things being equal, the school should repeat the title in 2015.

He hinged his optimism on the fact that only one player from this year’s winning unit would be ineligible for next year’s tournament.

Cheered on by a sizeable contingent of schoolmates and others from the Central Leeward community, CLSS led in all quarters 4-3, 10-6, 14-10 and finally 19-13.

Cimonia Solomon scored 14 from 17 and Anica Hackshaw registered 5 from 10, to count up Central Leeward’s tally.

For the dethroned Bethel High School, Collisha Velox landed successfully 6 of her 11 and Yanniesha Scipio had 7 of her 9 attempts tallied.
